Making the Most of Your Conference- This week, October 15th -19th (1:15pm dismissal all week), we have parent-teacher conferences (and, in most cases older students are involved in these conferences too). There is much research to support the positive impact of parents’ involvement in their children’s education. Conferences are a great way to be involved, informed and connected.
Here are some ideas to make the most of your conference next week. We look forward to seeing you all at Cove during conference week!

The Great Shakeout On Thursday, October 18th our school will conduct a disaster drill. Schools all across California will be participating in “The Great Shakeout” on 10/18/18. Students and staff will evacuate to the blacktop and we will practice our disaster preparedness safety procedures. The staff has been divided into several teams: Search and Rescue, Security, Shelter/Food/Supplies, First Aid, Student Supervision and Student Release. Additionally - community-based responders will also be participating in this drill to enact the real-life coordination of school and community partnerships of Emergency Responsiveness.
Congratulations on an awesome Walk and Roll Wednesday last week! Our drop off loop was almost completely EMPTY! Thank you CMPA for being there to support our efforts!
Cove School Book Fair Come to the Cove Library Monday 10/15 - Friday 10/19. Shop early for the holidays, birthdays, or for your own enjoyment. Volunteers welcome and needed! Stop by the Cove Library and sign up for a time slot during the week. Be sure not to miss the Library’s biggest fundraiser.The Cove Book Fair hours are:

Zero Waste Tip of the Week - Get Outside Nature is a beautiful thing. It is easy to get caught inside watching TV, playing video games, or doing too much homework. Here’s the challenge: Get outside! Spend 15-30 minutes each day outside and observe the beautiful wonders of nature.
Parent Education Event Plasticity and the Growth-Oriented Mindset October 16, 6:30-8:30, Hall Middle School Gymnasium. Are you asking yourself: How to best motivate and encourage your child? How to promote better self-awareness and emotional understanding? How can you build more cooperation andconnection at home? Kelly Kent, PhD, from adaptEd, will discuss the role parents play in promoting challenge, failure and appropriate feedback to ensure our kids have growth-oriented mindsets. This is the first of a 3-part series (for all Middle School and Elementary School parents) featuring adaptEd, an organization whose programs apply neuroscience to real-world situations.
