Why is there no school Monday? It’s a professional development daybecause teachers are learners too! This year, as a district, we are focusing on Readers’ Workshop and Cognitively Guided Math Instruction (CGI). Tomorrow, teachers will be working with Momentum in Teaching on further developing their Readers’ Workshop practices. You can read more about Readers’ Workshop here.
Mindfulness Update- The ability to pay attention is one of our most valuable resources. Mindfulness trains us to do two things: pay attention and become aware of what’s going on inside our minds. What we pay attention to will shape our minds; you get good at what you practice! Permission to Land is a Mindfulness tool that has been taught across the schools. It teaches students how they can practice paying attention to their thoughts and emotions. When you become aware of the thoughts and emotions, you gain control of how they are affecting your reactions. So how can you use this tool? Just pause and ask yourself: How am I feeling? What do I need? What is the reoccurring thought pattern and how is it affecting me? We hope you will give yourself and your children Permission to Land this week.

SPARK Fundraising Update: We need to raise $1.4M this year but have not yet reached our goal. These funds help to provide music, art, science integration, engineering and robotics for this school year. Reaching our fundraising goal allows us to maintain our commitment to the District and appropriately set goals for the 2019-2020 school year. Now more than ever, in these trying financial times, we are working hard to reach 100% Annual Giving participation this year! SPARK funds are critical to delivering the education our children deserve. Please join us with a donation or pledge today.
