Beginning Monday, we will be starting our Student Council Random Acts of Kindness Challenge here at the Cove. This school activity fits with our student council mission goals: building school pride and encouraging positive relationships within the school community.
Monday- Friday (Mar 18- 22), each person at the Cove will be noticing “acts” of kindness that they receive from someone here at school. These are NOT compliments, but actual ACTIONS that people do for others, like:
Helping someone in the classroom with something
Picking up something that someone dropped
Sharing something with someone
Walking or playing with someone who needs to be included
Helping someone who is hurt
Tying someone’s shoe for them
Holding open a door
Letting someone go first
Making a new friend
The list goes on and on…..
When someone receives an act of kindness, they will write the act down on a strip of paper. We will gather all the strips of paper at the end of each day and start putting all of the strips into one long chain that will be hung here in the Gallery as the week progresses.
Our goal is to create a HUGE Chain Reaction of Kindness to show the spirit of kindness, compassion, and empathy that we have here in our Cove community! So get ready to make the chain starting Monday!
WE ARE YOUR COVE STUDENT COUNCIL IN ACTION!
Sincerely,
2018-19 Cove Student Council
Special Retirement News- I want to share some special, bittersweet news with our fabulous Cove community. Four of our talented, dedicated teachers will be retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. Please join me in congratulating (and shedding a tear for...) Trish Hart, Kris Lerohl, Rob Lescoe and Wendy Meunier on their big life decision. We will take the next few months to savor each and every moment we have with these special people. More information to come as we prepare to celebrate their awesome careers!
Sincerely,
Michelle Walker
A Successful Cove 3.14 Math Night! A big “Thank You” to Melissa Scheeline, Jami Katz, Anastasia Robbins, and our parent and Hall Middle School volunteers for making this year’s PTO, SPARK, and Mathnasium sponsored Cove Math Night a success! We also thank Marin Pizza for serving their delicious pizza.
Our recent Family Math Night supports our CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction) focus in math this year. Based in over 30 years of research, CGI emphasizes deep conceptual understanding and requires students to explain their mathematical thinking. Children discover multiple strategies for solving a problem. Additionally, children have the option to use different numbers, based on the level of challenge they need. This allows for more challenging exploration of the given concept and promotes higher level thinking skills. Read more about CGI and how we are working to implement it here.
