DISTRICT NEWS
Gun Safety Letter from MCOE Last month Dr. Geithman sent out a communication regarding the safe storage of firearms. Here is a follow up in English and Spanish from the Marin County District Attorney, Sherriff, and Superintendent.
Updated 2020-21 Calendar and Approved 2021-22 Calendar The updated 2020-21 and Approved 2021-22 Calendar include Climate Adaptation Days. Since the 2015-16 school year, LCMSD has canceled school for at least one day due to a climate-related event. Each year the District has applied for a State waiver to avoid the loss of approximately $66,000 per day canceled; however, make-up days for the loss of instruction have not occurred. This trend has been noted by the California Department of Education and Marin County Office of Education who have stated that additional days should be built into all Marin district calendars, as climate-related cancelations are becoming an annual occurrence. Two additional days deemed Climate Adaptation Days (CAD) have been placed at the end of each school year. If school is canceled, the CAD, or make-up day will be used. On the Friday before spring break, the District will notify parents and staff what CAD days need to be used at the end of the year and confirm the last day of school.
Board Updates During the February 12, 2020 Board Meeting teachers and staff members shared the impact of last year’s budget reductions on their current work. The Board and District will continue working with staff on collaboratively identifying solutions. The Board took action to approve the revised 2020-21 and 2021-22 calendars, as well as the installation of cameras at all school sites. Law enforcement, Verkada (camera company), and insurance providers worked with our Director of Facilities to identify locations where cameras will be installed. An email notice and signage will be posted prior to cameras going online. The next Board Meeting is scheduled for March 10th.
