Dear Families,
Have you ever been to a Maker Faire? Imagine one at your child’s very own school! Our famous Tinker Day is just around the corner...just 2 weeks away! Here are pictures from last year’s Tinker Day to give you a picture of what it looks like.
On Friday, March 20th from 9:30am-11:30am our school transforms into a Tinker/Maker Fair for 2nd-5th grade students. K-1st grade students will be tinkering in their classrooms.
We need your help! Here’s what you can do:
Volunteer by completing this form here. Lots of helping hands needed! This is separate from volunteering at your child’s classroom station (teachers are requesting those volunteers separately).
Collect useable treasures for our general tinkering area. Please send a bag of items (clean recycling, tubes, any crafty items) to school with your child on the morning of Friday, March 20 (not earlier, please). They should leave these items on the painted earth in the center of the courtyard on Wednesday morning.
Contact Diana Nay (dnay@lcmschools.org) if you have items you can donate such as fabric, masking tape, glue guns, or anything else that might be used for tinkering! We need the following items: socks for puppets, fabrics, old electronics or items that kids can disassemble, cardboard boxes.
This event takes a village. The kids will forever remember Tinker/Maker Day. Please help make it happen! This event is made possible through your SPARK donations. THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Michelle Walker, Principal
Chris and Kristen Slowe, Parent Tinker Day Coordinators
At last week’s assembly, we kicked off The Great Kindness Challenge. To promote kindness, Student Council will be collecting “Kind Coins for Mexico” which is this year’s focus project. Any coins your child brings in will go toward building a school and friendship center in Tijuana, Mexico. We will also be celebrating kindness with a series of Spirit Days:
Monday: Ocean of Kindness Day- wear your favorite shade of blue
Tuesday: Let Kindness Shine Day- wear sparkles, shiny things, bright or neon colors
Wednesday: Crazy for Kindness Day-wear crazy hair, hats, or crazy socks
Thursday: Team Kindness Day-wear sports team attire
Friday: Dream of Kindness Day-wear pajamas

LCMSD Board Updates During the February 12th, 2020 Board Meeting teachers and staff members shared the impact of last year’s budget reductions on their current work. The Board and District will continue working with staff on collaboratively identifying solutions. The Board took action to approve the revised 2020-21 and 2021-22 calendars, as well as the installation of cameras at all school sites. Law enforcement, Verkada (camera company), and insurance providers worked with our Director of Facilities to identify locations wherecameras will be installed. The next Board Meeting is scheduled for March 10th. The second interim budget and physical fitness test results will be presented. For specifics on the state of the LCMSD budget, please see the February newsletter here.
The Variety Show was a Smashing Success! It was amazing to see so many talented performers give it their all in front of their family and friends! A big “Thank You” to our Variety Show team Elena O’Brien, Amber Smith-Gaulding and emcees Jason Zwerner and Josh Peterson -- you made it happen this year! The show could not have gone on without our MANY volunteers-- check out this amazing list of stage hands and helpers!
Spring Online Auction Opens Wednesday, March 11 at 12pm. From kids camps and activities, dining, sports and entertainment, beauty, health and fitness and of course, the much-loved parent-hosted and teacher and staff-hosted parties, there’s something for everyone!. Sign up parties are first-come, first-serve so don’t miss out! Last year this event raised more than $100K for our schools, so we encourage everyone to bid high and bid often - it’s for the kids! More information can be found here.
All About Sign-Up Parties The online auction features many fun social opportunities while raising money for our schools! These parties range from fitness-based activities (Mountain Biking, Hiking or Yoga to name a few) and interests (i.e cooking, or ping-pong) to traditional cocktail or dinner parties and casual gatherings. Spots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis and the cost is at a set-price. Many of these parties can sell out quickly, so make sure you’re in the know!
Save the Date! May 2nd, 2020 is the SPARK 40th Anniversary Ruby Ball!Featuring a Live Auction, Paddle Raise, dinner and dancing, this is our biggest fundraising event of the year! Exhibit Hall, Civic Center, 6:00pm-11:00pm.
Annual Giving We’re inching towards our year-end goal of $1.5M and are asking families to make their Annual Giving donation if they have not done so yet.
