A message from Scarlet Headly, Cove School Counselor
Dear Cove School Family,
I hope this finds all of our Cove coyotes well. One of my counseling mentors is Dr. Becky A. Bailey. She is an award-winning author, renowned teacher, and an internationally recognized expert in childhood education and developmental psychology. Dr. Bailey and her team have compiled these powerful Free Covid-19 Resources for Families and Educators to help us navigate the emotional rollercoaster we are on. Included are articles on:
Also, here are two additional, excellent resources:
Shubert and Sophie Stay Home- A printable book based on the characters from our monthly social-emotional learning curriculum.

The TED Interview: Elizabeth Gilbert says it’s Ok to feel overwhelmed. Here’s what to do next If you're feeling anxious or fearful during the coronavirus pandemic, you're not alone. Offering hope and understanding, author Elizabeth Gilbert reflects on how to stay present, accept grief when it comes and trust in the strength of the human spirit. "Resilience is our shared genetic inheritance," she says.
At the Cove, we regularly use 4 deep breathing/relaxation techniques known as the Stress Busters to help our brains and bodies calm down. Ask your kiddos to show you how to do them as every Cove coyote knows them well. Print them out and place them around your house as a reminder to be a S.T.A.R. (Stop, Take a deep breath, And Relax.)
I am available virtually for family, student and staff check-ins by appointment. Please reach out if you need someone to talk to when the fear, anxiety, depression and isolation bubble up. To set up an appointment, send an email tosheadley@lcmschools.org.
Let’s practice compassion, patience and flexibility with ourselves and each other as we are all in this together! May you find these words assuring during such an unsettling time. Wishing you and yours well!
Sincerely,
Scarlett Headley, M.Ed
