LCMSD UPDATES
Board Updates On Wednesday, August 19, 2020 the LCMSD Board of Trustees met and celebrated the extensive work 12-month employees engaged in over the summer to prepare all three models of instruction, approved Memorandums of Understanding with labor partners (CSEA and LCMEA), discussed the COVID-19 summer update/projects, discussed the distance learning only participation rate (14% of families chose distance learning only through December), reviewed the 45-day budget revision, and expressed gratitude for work and collaboration district-wide. The Board Agenda can be found here. The next meeting is scheduled for September 9, 2020 and will include a public hearing regarding the LCMSD Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan.
District Waiver LCMSD is in the research phase regarding the waiver process. The waiver, if approved by public health, allows districts to bring eligible grades (TK-6) on campus for in-person learning prior to being off of the California COVID Watch List. Some school districts might apply to bring all eligible grades on campus, while others might apply for certain grades, such as K-2. Since we knew distance learning was the model that we were going to start the year with, our focus has been on building and supporting a robust distance learning program (with our other models also clearly defined). After our waiver research phase, we will send out a communication as to whether or not LCMSD will pursue a waiver. Should we recommend engaging in the waiver process, we will need to hold stakeholder consultation sessions (parents, staff, and community) and a timeline for those events will accompany our communication. Thank you for your patience as we evaluate the waiver opportunity.
