CAASPP Testing- Next week (May 10) we begin the first week of CA Assessment of Student Progress and Performance (CAASPP) testing for 3rd-5th grade students. This is the first time our 3rd and 4th graders have taken this test due to COVID last spring.
Testing will occur in the morning between roughly 8:30-10:00am Monday- Thursday (with some exceptions). ELA (Reading and Writing) is the week of 5/10, Math (and science for 5th grade only) the week of 5/17.
Staff, students and parents form one team to ensure that kids are well-rested and ready to give their best effort over the next couple of weeks. Teachers will make every effort to reduce stress on students. At home, please encourage healthy breakfasts and getting to bed early. Our children look to us in these situations that can be stressful; please provide calm reassurance and perspective that they can do this and we believe in them. Please have students bring books to read if they finish early.
Water Bottles- As the weather warms up, kids are drinking more water! Please be sure your child has a reusable water bottle for use in school each day. It might work best to leave one water bottle at school at all times. Lunch Time Water: In effort to reduce waste, we are asking students to bring their reusable water bottles to lunch every day even if they are getting hot lunch. Students who forget water bottles will either be sent back to get them or offered a compostable cup to fill with water.
Our last day of school is Thursday, June 10 with 11:30 a.m. dismissal for grades K-8 at all schools. No lunch at school. Students who order from LunchMaster can pick up lunches to take home on the last day of school.
Baseball Bats Bats may not be taken out of bags at school. They are not permitted on the school playground. Some students need to bring them for practice after school. This is allowed as long as they stay in their bag at all times.
National Bike to School Day May 12 To spread the joy, students are encouraged to strap on their helmets and use their pedal power. Biking 2 miles takes only 14 minutes. Students can also WALK, SCOOTER, or PARK and WALK part way to school. Every bit helps! It's good for our health, the environment, and it's FUN!

A Membership Moment Brought to You by the Cove PTO
“As a mother of a kindergartener and new to The Cove, joining the PTO has been instrumental, especially during a pandemic year! It has allowed me to meet other parents, join the PTO board, and get involved - even if all virtual. I can't wait to meet everyone in person one day.” -Catherine Wold

Athletics Please make sure your child’s team is following guidance from the California Department of Public Health. Athletics have been one of the drivers of transmission, primarily due to clubs/teams not adhering to these guidelines. If your child’s team cannot follow the CDPH guidance, your child should be placed on Test or 10 (high-risk activities and/or out of state travel).
