PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Tribute to Lunch Volunteers

At Cove, we have over 80 regular volunteers who have given a combined 560 hours of volunteer time so far since April 12. That is incredible.

When they signed up for this job, some of them had never volunteered at Cove before, so this was their very first time. At the same time, it was our students’ first at school lunch and recess at school in over a year...what a challenge!

Our fearless volunteers have been true team players and really shown up for our kids. They have been there to support students through bumps, bruises, disagreements and hurt feelings. They divide up equipment, assemble the children into lines, hand out lunches, sanitize LOTS of hands, support with conflicts, and much, much more. They are also flexible with when changes come up such as hot sunny days one week and cold, windy days the next or changing recess zones. You name it, they do it!

Some volunteers have shared that it is more challenging than they could have ever imagined. Others have shared that it is the highlight of their week. Many are somewhere in between! Regardless---these volunteers have shown up and continue to show up every week. 

Volunteers- I am so incredibly grateful for your help, your teamwork, your ideas, your commitment. We are in home stretch (the last 3 weeks, 12 more lunch periods). We’ve got this! You can do it!

SCHOOL & PTO NEWS

From the Cove Library Thank you for a successful year in the library! We missed having students in the library, but we were very happy to see their smiling faces when we delivered books to classrooms. We are asking students to check their homes and classroom cubbies for any school library books. All books are due back to the library by Friday, May 28th. Students with outstanding library books will not receive their final report cards. 

Yellow Bus Passes Are available for purchase for the 2021-2022 school year. They may be purchased here.

LCMSD UPDATES

Board Update On May 18, 2021 the Board held their regularly scheduled meeting where a COVID Update was presented, the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) draft was discussed, the Expanded Learning Opportunities Grant Plan was approved, and all staff were recognized for this year’s Golden Bell Awards (MCOE video). SPARK UPDATES

Fund the Gap - We are SO close with ONLY $7K to go! We are so close to hitting our Fund the Gap goal. Five generous families have put together a $50K Challenge Grant if we reach $65K. Since we’re more than halfway there, we’ve already received $25k- half of the $50K challenge grant funding from one generous family! We need $7K more to hit our goal so we can unlock the remaining $25K. Any paddle raise donation will be counted towards your family's Annual Giving contribution for this year. Don’t forget that all donations may be eligible for a corporate match. Check with your employer or contact us at info@SPARKschools.org and learn more here.
