Thank you, PTO!
This week, I want to shine the spotlight on an incredible group of people who have done more than you can imagine to support our school this year: The Cove PTO Board. Led by President Kristen Slowe (who is also our weekly Cove Connection Editor!) and VP Kate Kropf, this incredible group of dedicated individuals has worked tirelessly to support students and teachers. Here are just a few examples of their work this year:
Decorated our school with signs, posters and balloons to welcome everyone back to our first day of in-person learning in October.
Catered monthly boxed lunches for our staff
Organized and hosted a virtual Variety Show
Provided funds for each teacher to get materials and supplies for their classroom
Helped out with the fun Coyote Awards Assembly
Designed new masks and other spiritwear items for students and staff alike (including Secret Snowflake Staff Hoodies!)
Tended to our school garden
Ran a highly successful Readathon complete with 5 assemblies, prizes, awesome participation rates and lots of spirit from kids and parents alike...and they surpassed their monetary goal!
Delivered coffee and donuts to teachers on a cold, foggy morning in March
Organized a National Bike to School Day with the highest participation ever
Restocked emergency backpacks and provided water bottles to classrooms
Organized and hosted a virtual Family Fun Night with Tricky Tim the Magician
An incredible staff appreciation week in May
Reimagined our traditional Holiday Store to allow children to make gifts for their parents
Facilitated picture day and the creation of a yearbook
Organized our lost and found
Organized a membership drive and membership appreciation efforts
Hosted a Make-Your-Own Pizza night
Organized the Cove Connection every week
And our classroom coordinators organized parents at large to support teachers and staff throughout the year in various ways.
Thank you, PTO Board members from the bottom of my heart! Cove wouldn’t be the same without you.
Sincerely,
Michelle Walker, Principal

PTO Board Member Moment “Being a member of the PTO has been such a blessing this year. I have so enjoyed being part of this wonderful group of parents who are dedicated to making the learning community at The Cove School an amazing place to learn, work, and grow. I am so appreciative of the hard work, dedication, and support that the PTO team, Cove staff, and parents have demonstrated during this extraordinary school year! As the Mom of a fifth grader, I will greatly miss this community of volunteers next year.” Tiffany Moore
Memorial Day Travel Even though we are in the Orange Tier, there are still travel guidelines in place for our county. If you engage in “high risk” activities such as traveling out of state or participating in sports not adhering to guidance, please email Coveabsentee@lcmschools.org, Hallabsentee@lcmschools.org, NCabsentee@lcmschools.org and your child’s teacher so we can set your child up to livestream. Your child must quarantine for 10 days after the high risk activity or get tested 5 days after and can return to school on day 8 with a negative COVID test.
During this required quarantine time, your child will have access to live streaming. Live streaming is not available for those who travel when school is in session (outside of May 29-31). It is only available for mandated quarantine periods. Live stream will continue being offered to students who are on Test or 10 due to symptoms or possible exposure. (Test or 10 Decision Tree)
Board Vacancy Anticipated We anticipate a Board of Trustees vacancy during the 2021-22 school year. Over the summer we will offer a Becoming a Trustee Workshop for those who might be interested. Stay tuned for more information.
