Dear Families,
I can hardly believe that we have reached the end of the most unusual year in Cove’s history. As we depart for summer, I am once again struck by how fortunate I am to be leading this fabulous community. The staff, children and families inspire and continuously remind me of why I love this work so much!
On Wednesday morning, we will bid farewell to our 5th graders in a special outdoor culmination ceremony. They are ready for their next adventure, and I wish them well! Despite a most unusual year, they have managed to form memories that will last a lifetime.
On Thursday morning at 8:30am, we have our closing assembly and we celebrate Ms. Franco’s retirement.
Dismissal for all students is at 11:30am on our last day of school- Thursday, June 10th. I look forward to 4 more memorable days with your children! Thank you for all of your teamwork and support in making our way through this very unique year!
Sincerely,
Michelle Walker, Principal

President’s Message Last week Principal Walker highlighted many of our Boards accomplishments during this wild year. Our 2020-2021 Board had no idea what the year would bring when they were voted in but every member rose to the occasion and helped make this pandemic year one of the best years at the Cove yet.
However, none of this could have been accomplished without the parents, teachers, SPARK, and leadership at the Cove as well as the larger LCMSD community for being actively involved with school during this unprecedented year. While being PTO President affords me a unique opportunity to be involved and serve the Cove School I have seen firsthand how much it takes to make it really happen. Parents this year peeled plexiglass, placed dots, helped their children log on to events, log on to their school day and specialists, charged devices, rallied for three first days of school, and volunteered for lunch in record numbers. Our teachers and specialists created these three incredible first days; remote, hybrid and in person, and each time in doing so created a new, unique, safe, caring and well laid out learning environment for our children. They did all this from a safe distance while wearing a smile underneath their PPE. Our Cove leadership with Ms. Walker and Dr. Geithman for their part planned and prepped and flexed as this pandemic has been constantly in flux. They all listened to the many voices, needs, concerns and opinions of parents, teachers, and students. And throughout it all kept our children as the priority, and our children thrived.
It is truly a gift that I am able to be a part of this community as well as PTO President. I thank each and everyone one of you for the role you played this year. I look forward to welcoming you back on the first day of school next year with a cup of coffee and a hug! Enjoy Summer Break!
With Gratitude,
Kristen Slowe, PTO President
Thank You! Despite the pandemic challenges that came with the beginning of this school year, thanks to generous families like you, we are just shy of our $1.5M fundraising goal! We extend our sincerest gratitude to the families who stepped up with their financial support of SPARK and our schools.
It’s Not Too Late to make a donation if you haven’t done it - our fiscal year closes on June 30th and any donation of any amount will count for our 2020-2021 Annual Giving campaign. It’s also a good time to check to see if you can increase your donation with Corporate Match. Learn more here.
Board Vacancy Anticipated We anticipate a Board of Trustees vacancy during the 2021-22 school year. Over the summer we will offer a Becoming a Trustee Workshop for those who might be interested. Stay tuned for more information.
Board Updates The Board held two meetings this week (June 2 and June 3). LCMSD retirees (Michael Arrow, Elaine DeMartini, Alice Franco, & Ted Stoeckley) and Dr. Patty Flynn Elliot were celebrated, a COVID Update regarding vaccines and plans for next year was discussed, a public hearing for the LCAP and 2021-22 budget were held (which were then approved on June 3), and Kyle Shaw was approved as the Interim Principal of Neil Cummins. Board agendas can be found here.
