The Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill - On Monday, October 25th, our school is scheduled to practice a disaster drill with a full evacuation. This is our way of participating in the Great Shakeout event (officially on October 21 this year) along with several other schools and districts in the US and internationally. We will reschedule this in the case of rain.
The Great Shakeout site has great material for your own family to prepare in the case of a major disaster or emergency. Please take a moment to read this important information about our school’s disaster preparation and response and remember to list emergency contacts for your child in case you cannot pick them up in case of emergency. The people listed in our system are the only ones we can release your child to!
We celebrated in our Kids Heart Challenge Assembly on Friday. 162 coyotes earned prizes for participating in Heart Hero challenges! And, the class with highest participation that will get to slime Mrs. Walker is….Mrs. Jehling’s class! Thank you to parent coordinators Melissa Scheelineand Marina Carlowe for organizing this!
Día de los Muertos at the Cove Have you seen Coco? Día de los Muertos, a well-respected Latin American tradition, is a way to honor and remember our loved ones who have passed away. This year again, Cove coyotes are invited to engage by submitting pictures of decorative artwork and/or photos of their loved ones who have passed away.
3 fabulous parent volunteers will print and hang your photos outside in front of the school to form an altar. We will share pictures of the altar and learn about the Day of the Dead holiday in our October 29 assembly. Last call for art and pictures! Día de los Muertos Photos 2021 Questions? Email one of our parent coordinators: Monica + Jasmine + Glenda + Mirabel
Halloween Celebration at Cove, Friday October 29 - Here are details about what is and is not allowed for Halloween costumes at Cove for our fun and safe Halloween celebration. Individual classrooms will recognize this fun holiday in a variety of ways. Kindergarten and 1st grade parents are invited to join us for our parade at 1:30pm. It is a very short parade around the track. Please arrive between 1:20pm-1:25pm and stand on the grass on the edge of the field. Thank you!
Rainy Day Routines
Morning Drop Off-Classrooms will open at 8:05 on rainy days. Adults should send students in and not pass the entry gates themselves.
Cove In Motion- Cove in Motion will be canceled on days that it is raining. We will make the final call at 7:30am. In order to hold Cove in Motion we need a rain-free period from 7:30-8:35am. This is because we need time to set up/ take down sound equipment that cannot get wet in the rain.
Umbrellas- Students need to “park” their umbrellas with their backpacks from start of school until end of school.
Boots/ Shoes for PE- No rain boots for PE! Please remember to send shoes suitable for PE on days that your child has PE. This can be instead of rain boots or in addition to rain boots.
Recess/ Lunch- There will be days where students will be out in misty rain at recess and lunch. We will do our best to make the correct call about indoor vs. outdoor recess and lunch, but it is a moment to moment decision at this time of year that is different each day.
Cove Library Birthday Book Program Through the Library Birthday Book Program at the Cove, hundreds of new books are donated in celebration of many student birthdays. Each month, a flier is sent home to students celebrating their birthday that month. All you have to do is fill out the form, and donate (suggested donation = $20), and return the form to the library or your child’s teacher. Then your child may come to the library to choose his or her book, and receive a commemorative bookplate in the book they choose with their name on it! October and November birthday Coyotes will receive a form in their backpack next week. You can also pick up a copy at the library. Thank you for your support in this fun program!
