I hope that many of you will join us for our Tinker/Maker Day on Wednesday, June 1. I am so excited to have our first Tinker Day since 2019!
Tinkering/ Making is one of our Cove Signature Practices. Tinkering helps develop creativity and innovative thinking. The first step is to allow children to explore materials (Tinker with them) and learn a variety of skills (sewing, coding, hammering, drilling, building circuits, cooking, building, etc). The next step is to give them a provocation or prompt where they use their tinkering skills to create/ design (Make) something. Then, with experience and time to explore their curiosities, children can then begin to ask their own questions and design their own responses or solutions (Innovate).
During our Tinker/Maker Day, 2nd-5th grade students are set free to explore in their own personal areas of interest. They will have a variety of options to choose from. K-1st graders will participate in tinkering activities in their classrooms that morning.
We need you!
Sign up to volunteer 9:00-12:00 (or a portion therein) that day.
Your teachers will need volunteers for their stations. Sign up through your teachers for those stations.
We also need lots of volunteers for general Tinker Day activities from 9:30-11:30AM. Want to join? Have a tinker skill to offer? Please sign up here to run a station- no prior experience needed (for most)! Cove Tinker Day Sign up sheet
