Reading Assessments This Week

Early dismissal next week all week! Why? Teachers will be administering one on one reading assessments to your children this week. Our teachers spent time this past week calibrating their protocols for the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (F&P assessments). 

These assessments look at fluency (how smooth is the reading), accuracy (how many errors does the child make) and comprehension (do they understand what they are reading). Teachers use these results to plan differentiated instruction and set personalized goals for your child.

The assessments also produce an independent reading level (A-Z) that can help guide your child to “just right” books at home. When we send the assessment results home, you will see more information about how to choose “just right” books for your child to read independently at home.

Mrs. Headley’s lesson on mindful bodies and mindful breathing with 2nd graders, 3rd graders collaborating on a CGI math problem, 5th graders tinkering with tools, PTO’s new sign!

Calling all 5th Graders! Announcing the 2022-2023 Cove School Yearbook Cover Design Contest! This year's theme is: "Happiness Comes in All Different Colors" – Diversity is about embracing one another’s uniqueness and learning to love the rainbow of our differences. 

The winning entry will appear on the front of the yearbook and the winner will receive a free yearbook. Entries due by 4pm on Wednesday, November 2nd, voting will take place at lunch on ‘VOTING DAY’, Tuesday, November 8th. The winner will be announced in June. 

All 5th grade students will receive official rules in their classrooms this coming week. For more information, email coveyearbook@gmail.com 

Cove Library Birthday Book Program Looking for a special way to celebrate your child’s birthday? Consider The Cove School’s Birthday Book Program! Each year hundreds of new books are donated to the school library through the Birthday Book Program. Near each student’s birthday, a flyer will be sent home inviting students to celebrate their birthday by donating a book to the library. You can also download a copy here. Thank you for your support!  

Cove PTO Fall Family Festival Save The Date! Plan to join us Thursday October 20th 5:00pm-7:00pm on the blacktop. A great way to connect with friends, make new friends, and celebrate the changing of the season! There will be games, activities, music, and more! There will be a taco truck & a popcorn station to purchase food. Halloween costumes are encouraged (kids and adults)! 

Spirit Day Each Friday Please have your child wear Cove spiritwear on Fridays. Don't have any Cove gear? No problem! Wearing the color blue shows Coyote spirit just the same. 

Volunteers Needed!! Sign Up Here: Cove Lunch and Recess Volunteers 2022-2023 We have added a slot for K morning recess (this need is secondary to K lunch help!) and a slot for reffing on the big playground. We are going to try bringing 2 touch football back on the field only when we have an adult to ref it.

Annual Giving Campaign Without your generous donations to SPARK, the reality is our schools would not have music, art, science/technology, and wellness/counseling.  All gifts, no matter the amount, make a difference for our three schools. Donate today.
