Great Shakeout Emergency Preparedness
The Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill - On Thursday, October 20th at 10:50am, our school is participating in the Great Shakeout earthquake disaster drill with a full evacuation. We are doing this Great Shakeout event along with several other schools and districts in the US and internationally.
The Great Shakeout site has great material for your own family to prepare in the case of a major disaster or emergency. Please take a moment to read this important information about our school’s disaster preparation and response and remember to list emergency contacts for your child in case you cannot pick them up in case of emergency. The people listed in our system are the only ones we can release your child to!
A huge thank you to our PTO Health and Safety parent volunteer, Dave Goodspeed, for all his work in ensuring the emergency backpacks in each classroom are fully stocked. Thank you also to Central Marin Police and our Fire Department for the help, feedback and time they continue to give us in helping us prepare for the drills and potential emergency situations.
International Walk & Roll was a resounding success!
Thank you to all the walkers, bikers, and carpoolers!
The Fall Family Festival is this week! Join us this Thursday October 20th, 5:00pm-7:00pm on the Cove School black top for some fun! There will be games, activities, music, and more! And if you come hungry there will be a taco truck & popcorn station with delicious food for purchase. Halloween costumes are highly encouraged for kids and adults!
There will also be a costume exchange - bring your old costumes and exchange for a new one that someone else brings. All costumes left at the end of the event will be donated! Click here for more details!
Halloween is another day of learning at Cove. We are looking forward to a fun and safe celebration on Monday, October 31. Individual classrooms will recognize this fun holiday in a variety of ways. Here are details about what is and is not allowed at Cove on Halloween. Thank you!
Costume Guidelines: I encourage you to modify the costume for school as necessary in order to set your child up for success.
Costumes cannot interfere with learning.
No inflatables may be inflated at school.
Your child must be able to use the restroom independently in his/her costume.
Costumes should not depict a member of ethnic or racial group to which you do not belong.
Costumes should not depict a gender in a mocking or unfavorable way
No blood/ gore, weapons, masks from home.
No applying hair or face paint at school.
No props/accessories; Please don’t send any essential items that might get lost or broken.
No changing during school
Kindergarten Parade: At 1:30pm on October 31, we will have a parade of our kindergartners. It lasts about 10 minutes and will go around the blacktop. Kindergarteners will get to parade around with their costumes and/or hand made masks while the rest of the school watches and cheers for them. Grades 1-5 line their classes up around the perimeter for K’s to walk by. There will be a clear parent area for kindergarten parents, separate from students. This is a cherished and very brief school-wide celebration that honors our young students!
Cove Garden Work Party We need your help in the Cove Garden! Join us as we will be weeding and planting new seeds in our beloved Cove Garden. Coffee will be provided! Bring your own gloves. Sunday October 23rd, 9:00am-11:00am.
