7th Annual Cove School Readathon
Help our kids, and our school, start the New Year strong by joining us in making our 7th Annual Cove School Readathon the best one yet!
The Readathon is a 4-week reading and fundraising event that will take place from January 13 to February 7. Not only does it encourage our children to read, it raises money that the Cove School relies heavily on. This is for ALL KIDS at The Cove, even the kindergartners who are just learning to read.
We will have a special assembly on Friday, January 13 to kick-off the readathon.
The money we collectively raise directly funds The Cove needs such as:
Tech Licenses
Classroom furniture
Cove office and admin supplies
Teachers materials
Professional Development Days
Reading Support Position
Cove Campus Support Staff
...And the list goes on!
Reading to your child, having them read to you, reading on their own, and even audiobooks count toward minutes read! All are proven ways to grow the love of reading. Let’s read, raise, and win!
We have awesome incentives and prizes for our students and teachers.
You should have received an email invitation from 99pledges with your child's unique link.
Visit 99pledges and our Readathon website for more information.
The Readathon is the only fundraising event dedicated solely to
The Cove School, so please help us make it a success!

Readathon Book Swap Start going through your kids books and make a pile that you wish to donate to The Cove School Book Swap. We will be collecting books on Tuesday, January 17 - Thursday, January 19 in the Gallery. Bring one, bring a box. Every child will go home with at least one new book on Friday, January 20.
Choose a new Book for the New Year! Students with January birthdays can look out for a Birthday Book Program flyer from the Cove Library in their backpack this week. Simply make a small donation to this fun program and your child will get to choose a brand new book, with their name written on a bookplate inside, for all to enjoy at the Cove Library. And in addition, don’t forget to support your beloved local store, The Book Passage! Mention The Cove School at check out (or in the comments field if ordering online) and the school will receive a portion of the purchase in the form of bookstore gift certificates. We use these to buy even more books for the kids to enjoy in the library.

Transitional Kindergarten LCMSD will not be offering transitional kindergarten/universal preschool for the 2023-24 school year. LCMSD is largely in support of TK as long as it is funded. Unfortunately, when Newsom announced the expansion of the program he omitted the fact that Basic Aid districts would not receive funding to support this additional grade level. LCMSD is designated as a Basic Aid district. About 10% of all school districts in California are also deemed this as our property taxes meet/exceed the minimum per pupil expenditure as defined by the state. The other 90% of districts are LCFF funded, which means they rely on state funding in addition to their property taxes to meet this minimum per pupil requirement. Basic Aid districts differ, LCMSD is barely Basic Aid where Laguna Beach, for example, is deep Basic Aid, which means they have much more funding per pupil than LCMSD. There are groups advocating for Basic Aid districts to receive funding for TK/UPK. Should they be successful, we will revisit this for the 2024-25 school year.
