Black Joy: Agent of Change
Our LCMSD equity leadership team is leading us in celebrating joy within different ethnic and/or social groups. There is a different focus each month. In February, we are celebrating Black Joy!
Each time we explore joy within different ethnic and/or social groups, we will choose an agent of change. We are defining "agent of change" as someone who has made a difference for the identified group of focus. The identification of an agent of change will serve as the through line that connects group to group. It is our hope that students will begin to surface similarities in traits and qualities, across differences.
While there are MANY agents of change worth celebrating for their contributions to the lives of Black people and Black culture, we chose Ruby Bridges. We invite you to join us as we learn about Ruby Bridges and the impact she made…all because she decided to be brave. You can use these questions to reflect about our chosen agent of change OR to learn more about another change maker!
We will be celebrating Ruby Bridges and black joy in our assembly on Friday, February 17!
Ruby Bridges Walk + Assembly February 17 Mark your calendar to walk to school and show support for ending racism and bullying. Meet at the corner of Spindrift and Seawolf at 7:45am to walk to school as a community. There will be purple beanies, purple bracelets and purple buttons for your backpack. Feel free to wear more purple! We will leave at 7:50am to walk along Spindrift and enter school by the baseball diamond. If you miss the walking train, we will have a table in front 81 Spindrift (three houses down from the entrance to school) with all the accessories so you can do a partial walk to school to show your support.

SPARK Party Hosts Wanted We are working hard at pulling together some fabulous parties to feature in the SPARK Spring Online Auction, March 15-20. Parents host parties that are then made available for bidders to sign up for. Money raised from attendees is donated to SPARK! Last year, SPARK raised more than $12,000 from sign-up parties! These include gatherings for kids, families and adults. Many are tried and true parties that we’ve carried on for years and are looking for a couple of additional co-hosts. You can also come up with your own theme. Here are some ideas to get you inspired: Golf, Cornhole, Hikes, Ping Pong, Gardening, Amazing Race, Crab Feed, Beach Bonfire, Karaoke, Comedy Night, and Cooking! If any of these sound like something you're interested in being a part of, please contact Allison Bricker at alisonbricker@gmail.com or fill out our party donation form here.
