Dear Families,
This Friday, February 1st, Progress Reports will be emailed home to you. These progress reports include qualitative and quantitative data on your child’s progress toward the most essential standards.
Grades 3-5 will get theirs through Alma, our student information system. The email will come from, “The Cove School Notifications<notifications@getalma.com>”. Some of our primary grade classes will be conferring with parents and providing updated data in lieu of written comments. Teachers have already communicated with parents in these classes.
We measure student progress in two ways to get the whole picture on your child. First, we look at your child to see if they are making continual growth at an appropriate rate (regardless of what level they began). Second, we look at progress toward grade level standards.
We also look at multiple ways of showing progress, as every child does not demonstrate their learning in the same way.
Please keep in mind that our teachers have put loads of energy into this endeavor. Writing thoughtful individual comments is challenging, time-consuming, and yet our amazing team of professionals do this for your children!
We value you as partners in your child’s learning, and we look forward to providing these progress reports to you on Friday.
Sincerely,
Michelle Walker, Principal

Readathon Update Our school just finished up our first full week of The Cove Readathon! Remember to log your minutes! (If you had trouble logging minutes last weekend, the link has been fixed!) We hope all our Coyotes are encouraged to pick up a book during this very important fundraiser. The Readathon is the primary fundraiser for the Cove PTO, raising money exclusively for our school! Here is a detailed list of where this money goes. We are hoping for 100% participation in both reading and donations! We can do this! For more information about our Cove Readathon, please visit The Cove Readathon website!
Readathon FAQs:
Do minutes spent reading during the school day count towards my daily minutes log? No. We do not count minutes read during class time or free time/tinker time during the school day.
Do listening to Audio books count towards my reading minutes? No. All reading must be done by the student or another person reading to them. Audio books or other stories read to students through iPads or computer will not count as minutes read (unless this is a specific accommodation that you have worked out with your teacher).
Can I have a paper reading log to log my minutes? Yes! You can print one here. We encourage you to then record your child's minute in the online reading log.
Keep up the awesome reading, Coyotes!
