Cove will be participating in the 6th Annual Global School Play Day (#GSPD2020) on Wednesday, February 5. Students will engage in play with toys that do NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices. Teachers/ Adults don't organize anything for students, don't tell students how to play with the toys/games, and don't interfere with students unless they see something unsafe. Let’s give the gift of learning through play to our students!
More and more research underscores the critical importance of play in the emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of children - including this study from 2018 from the American Association of Pediatrics. Cove (along with Hall Middle School and Neil Cummins) has embraced this for years - and on Wednesday, February 5, our district will celebrate the 6th annual Global School Play Day along with children from around the globe. This is also being officially adopted by the Marin County Office of Education. Last year over a half-million kids participated in 72 countries; This year the projection is one million. Check out the "play-fomercial" that Hall’s Leadership students created to inspire schools locally and globally to take part!
Congratulations to Ms. Maher’s Class! Two weeks in a row! They are on fire! They read the most minutes last week-- can you believe these 25 students read a whopping a total of 9,305 minutes! Their class wins the Week 2 popsicle party!
We are in the Homestretch! This is our last week tracking minutes and donations are due Monday, February 10th. Remember, there are prizes for each grade, for individual classes, for the teachers and individuals. When you read and raise, we all win!
Our goal of $70,000 remains unchanged from last year, but we need you to help get us there! The Cove PTO cannot do all we do for our children and school alone! Visit our Readathon Donation Page to find your child and our visit PTO Readathon Page for FAQs and prizes!
Post and share your child’s 99Pledges page —think texting friends and family, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Help your child ask family, friends, neighbors, or your coworkers to donate by sending them their 99Pledges page link.
Encourage your child to read, read, and read some more!
Encourage your child to write thank you notes to family and friends who sponsored them.
Honesty! While it’s tempting for students to inflate the number of minutes read, we hope parents can use this as a valuable opportunity to teach the importance of honest, hard work.
No after school classes during early dismissal week, February 3rd-7th due to the assessment schedule. Viva Espanol will be holding classes since they do not meet in a classroom.
Valentine’s Day Many classes will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14th. Please respect any communications from your child’s teacher/s around classroom celebrations. Students are welcome to bring Valentine’s cards with pencils, colorful erasers, stickers, tattoos, etc…but no candy or food items please! Here are more ideas if you are interested.
From the Cove Garden Last week students created bags of kale and lettuces for our students to take home and enjoy. What a local, fresh and healthy thing!
