Update on School Schedule/ Return to Full Classes In his email to our LCMSD community on Thursday, February 4, Dr. Geithman shared that we have (tentatively) scheduled a return to full classes on April 12 with approximately 5+ hours of instructional time daily. We will discuss this at the Board Meeting on February 10th at 6:00 pm and have scheduled parent meetings on February 11th to present data and plans, as well as gather feedback. The meeting recordings and the slide deck will be available here by 5:00 pm on February 12th.

One important component of meeting this goal is parent volunteers - please attend these meetings to learn more about the vital role parents will play in extending our school day!
I encourage you to attend the board meeting and/or the elementary parent meetings coming up this week. You can read the full email from Dr. Geithman with more information here.

Student Email Accounts Our goal is to help children learn how to be positive digital citizens and teach them about responsible technology use. Every student has a school email account assigned to them. These email accounts are for school use only and should not be used for correspondence about personal topics. I have asked teachers to be sure that students are aware of this. These accounts are monitored and will be suspended if misused. As a parent, please follow up with your child about the difference between school/work accounts and personal accounts. Perhaps, you might want to set up a personal email account for them to be able to correspond with friends and family. That is a choice that each family can make. Thank you for your help with teaching our children digital citizenship! These lessons will help them for years ahead. Thank you!
Valentine’s Day 2021 #COVIDStyle Many classes will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 12th. This year, we cannot allow students to bring Valentine cards from home to distribute to their classmates at school. Such a bummer, I know! Some families may choose to do electronic Valentine cards for classmates. Teachers will be brainstorming and sharing ideas for class Valentine activities that do not involve passing out cards or food or parent volunteers. Please look for information from your child’s teacher about how they will be celebrating Valentine’s Day!
New Student Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year is Now Open OPEN! Registration for next school year is open for students new to the district in grades K-8. To register a new student to the district, please review the Registration Process. Students currently enrolled with the district do not need to register.
The Cove Yearbook is looking for PICTURES Kids doing school from home, participating in Specialty Zooms, joining in on Cove-in-Motion, in their favorite mask, sharing their projects, etc! In particular, we need photos of our amazing 5th graders and want to honor them with a special dedication! You can add your pictures to the Google album here. Be sure to label the pictures like this: Student Name_Grade_Teacher.
Coming Soon: Amy’s Drive-Thru shake coupons! Please check your student’s backpack for the coupon this coming week. Thank you to all the families who participated in our Annual Participation Challenge in November and helped us hit 65%.
Corporate Match Have you taken advantage of your company's Corporate Match program with your Annual Giving donation? Last year we raised nearly $155K alone through Corporate Match Programs. Not sure if your company participates? Find out here if you can double your donation!
Board Updates The Board met on February 3, 2021 (agenda) and engaged in a Budget Study Session. On February 10, 2021 the Board will hold a regularly scheduled meeting at 6:00 pm where they will vote on a resolution to refinance school bonds. The refinance, if approved, will result in no savings to the District; the savings will all go to LCM taxpayers and is estimated at $8.2 million. Additionally, during the February 10, 2021 meeting the Board will be presented with a COVID Update (including information regarding the return to full classrooms and a longer instructional day). The Board will also examine follow-up scenarios based on their Budget Study Session. The meeting will be conducted in person (RSVP mokeeffe@lcmschools.org – space is limited) and via Zoom (Zoom link).
Parent Meeting re: Budget To follow up on the Board’s Budget Study Session, we will provide the Board with budget scenarios to discuss on February 10th at 6:00 pm and have scheduled a parent meeting to gather feedback on February 23rd at 8:30 am (Zoom link). The meeting recording and the slide deck will be available here by 5:00 pm on February 25th.
